Why should I create a personal nature fund page?

Personal nature fund pages are a fun way to share your passion for our natural world and put yourself at the center of The Nature Conservancy's conservation work. By sharing your story of why you are inspired to create your page, you help motivate and educate your network of family and friends. Here are some reasons why Conservancy supporters have created personal nature fund pages.

  • Motivating others while training and participating in an athletic competition (e.g., marathon, triathlon)
  • Helping nature instead of receiving birthday gifts
  • Raising awareness of and engaging others in conservation issues
  • Celebrating nature
  • Sharing love of a favorite natural place or species
  • Becoming more involved in raising money for Conservancy programs
  • Adding as an option for a wedding registry
  • Honoring a person who has a passion for nature
  • What kinds of personal nature fund pages can I create?

You can create three types of personal nature fund pages to benefit The Nature Conservancy.

  • Support Conservancy programs in the United States and around the world where help is needed most with a personal nature fund page. Create your page>
  • Help The Nature Conservancy's work in Brazil's Atlantic Forest with a page to support the Plant a Billion Trees campaign. Learn more about Plant a Billion Trees> or Create your Plant a Billion Trees personal nature fund page
  • Raise money for the Conservancy's long-term restoration work in the Gulf of Mexico with a page to benefit the Fund for Gulf Coast Restoration. Learn more about the Gulf> or Create youre Gulf Fund personal nature fund page>
  • Can I customize my personal nature fund page?

You can add photos, edit your existing story and post updates at any time in the Manage Your Fund center. Updating your personal nature fund page is a great way to keep others coming back to your page. You can also create a customized URL which is meaningful for your page.

How do I create a customized URL/web address that is easy to remember for my page?

After your fund page is created, you can log into your Manage Your Fund center and select "Edit Fund Settings" or “Create Personalized Web Address” in the “Fund Page Information” area. Once you are in the “Update the Fund” page, simply enter the text for your personalized web address (such as your name or the name of your event). You may only use letters and numbers as well as the period (.), dash (-) and underscore (_) characters from your keyboard. To avoid problems, do not leave any spaces before or after your text.

Remember to save your changes and look for the “Successfully saved changes to the fund” message to display at the top of the page. Your new web address appears at the bottom of the page next to “Current URL.” You can copy the shortcut displayed and paste it into an email or web browser.

What are the photo requirements for the main photo on my personal nature fund page?

  • Images must be .gif, .jpg or .png files. Files with a .jpg or .png type will be automatically resized to fit in a 225 x 300 pixel space.
  • The maximum acceptable file size is 1.5 MB.
  • If you do not like the way the image looks or have uploaded the wrong one, you can upload a different one or remove the photo completely and fix the photo later in the Manage Your Fund center.
  • You can add a caption below the photo from the Manage Your Fund center after your page is created.
  • How do I add more photos to my page?

When you are logged into your Manage Your Fund center, you can add more photos using the Photo Album feature (located in the "Fund Page" section).

Is there a way to make my fund page private?

When you create a fund page, just check the "Make Personal Fundraising Page Private" box. This way your fund page will not show up in our search results and will only be available to those who are sent the web address of your page. If you want to change your fund to private or public after it is created, you can log into your Manage Your Fund center and select "Edit Fund Settings" in the “Fund Page Information” area. Once you are in the “Update the Fund” page, you can check or uncheck “Private Fund.” Remember to save your changes and look for the “Successfully saved changes to the fund” message to display at the top of the page.

How do I update the name and description of my fund page?

If you want to change the name or description o f your fund page after it is created, you can log into your Manage Your Fund center and select "Edit Fund Settings." Once you have made and saved your changes, the “Successfully saved changes to the fund” message displays across the top of the page.

Can my gift to a page be anonymous, or can I have a different name appear on a fund page after I’ve made a donation?

After selecting the “Make a Donation” button on the personal nature fund page, you can check the “Yes, list as anonymous gift” box in the “Recognition of Your Gift” section of our secure donation form. To have a name besides the billing name recognized for the gift, simply enter how you would like to be recognized in the “Recognition Name” field. No matter how you like to be recognized, your gift will count towards the page’s fundraising goal.

    Return to top of page.

I have a My Nature Page login, should I log in before creating a personal nature fund page?

We recommend logging in before creating your fund, as it saves time during the creation process by using information from your user profile. Also, you will avoid receiving a "Duplicate email address found" error message when you attempt to enter your contact information.

How do I know who has donated to my personal nature fund page?

There are two places in your Manage Your Fund center to see who has donated to your page. To see the count of donations and a list of names and amounts, select “Fund Summary.” On this page, you can see the number of gifts you received, the amount of each gift and the names of the donors. You can also select the “Follow Up” icon, located at the top of each page in the Manage Your Fund center, to see a list of your contacts. You can filter by those who have donated to your fund, and then you will see a list of names, email addresses, number of donations and donation date. You can also download or print this list.

Is there a quick way to send an email thank you or update to people who have donated to my page?

The “Follow Up” section of the Manage Your Fund center makes it easy to send emails to your contacts and donors. Just select the “Follow Up” icon, located at the top of each page in the Manage Your Fund center, to see a list of your contacts. Next to “Show contacts who” you can choose the “Filter by Donor Status” to filter by those who have or have not donated to your fund. You can also filter by “Suggested Follow-Up Actions” to select contacts you have never emailed, need follow-up and need to be thanked for their donation. You can select all or select manually those who you would like to email. You can then choose from sample emails, which you can edit, and the system will mark these contacts as having been emailed. You can also download or print your contact list.

    Return to top of page.

Can I create a personal nature fund page for a specific area of land, body of water, species or cause?

You can celebrate and raise awareness of a location, species or cause and share your story of what inspired you to create your personal nature fund page; however, you are not able to direct the distribution of the donations that are made through your page, and you should avoid using language that suggests otherwise.

How do I add and import contacts or email addresses from another source?

Using the “Address Book” section of the Manage Your Fund center, you can quickly import contacts, as well as manually add contacts. Just select the “Address Book” icon, located at the top of each page in the Manage Your Fund center, and choose “Import Other Address Book,” “Import .csv File” or “Add Contacts.” You can also edit and delete contacts in this section.

Can people support my fund page with a check donation?

Yes, check donations are accepted for personal nature fund pages. You and your supporters can send checks to the address below. To make sure that the donations get applied to the appropriate fund page, either a print out of the fund page or a note that clearly indicates the check is to support a personal nature fund page and the name of the fund must be included with the donation. The designated manager (often the creator) of the fund page will be notified via email when these donations are received.

How do I add or update my fundraising goal?

When you create a fund page, you can enter an amount next to "Fundraising Goal" or you can leave it blank. You can add or update your goal after your fund page is created, by logging into your Manage Your Fund center and changing the amount in the "New goal" field in the “Fund Page Information” area.
