Re-use Everyday Items

Don't throw out anything without asking yourself if it can be reused. I got this mentality from backpacking, where you have very few resources to work with. Lots of food packaging like plastic bags, if opened carefully, can be reused for something else.

How do you re-use items in your household?

Our family re-uses bread bags. We don't wash them out, just turn inside out and shake out the crumbs, then let air out. They can be used for a disposable sandwich bag, are perfect for washed celery in the fridge, can wrap a block of cheese that's been opened, or for messy food garbage, etc. Some perforated fruit bags we donate to our boy scout troop for making a "sump" for the camp kitchen.

Since using cloth and paper grocery bags now, I needed bags to clean up after our dog on walks. However, since I started saving bread bags, and other bags from grocery items, I now have MORE bags than I need. We now share with the local dog park vs them providing NEW plastic bags!

I reuse my old bottles and donate them to the school in my county where they make sculptures with them

I work in a paper Mill where we use recycled cardboard to make new paper. I bring all of my cardboard to work therefore no truck has to use gas to haul my cardboard waste. Also save all plastic containers to take lunches in or just store left-overs.
