Start a Nature Journal

Start a nature journal - to write down your observations for what plants or animals are coming out or back to your area...such as birds...what plants are budding out or what trees leaf out first. Maybe you would like to learn to sketch out some of your observations.

I also feed birds in my backyard and keep a journal of birds I see daily and note when migratory birds arrive. That way I know when to expect them and include their favorite foods. It doesn't have to be fancy, it just has to be fun!

WOW! A Best Friend of mine is an Extremely dedicated and AVID "Birder." Consequently, he aroused my interest in birding about 15 years ago. I Set out assorted foods each morning, after daybreak, following a pre-dawn, candle-lit "prayer & meditation session" (thanking my Father for a restful nites sleep & for watching over me as I did so.) I have fed them everything from corn kernels to cheerios, sunflower seeds (both grey-striped and black oil) toasted bread, suet cakes, millet, popcorn, hominey grits, etc. It gives me such JOY to watch the call & come to feed. This AM, there were: Cardinals, mourning doves, juncos, chicadees, a white-breasted nuthatch, blue-jays, crows, starlings, AND a Pileated Woodpecker (the LARGEST) looks like "Woody Woddpecker!" I'll dump out the ice from the night before & give them fresh well water (JUST as important as the feed! ANYWAY...THIS LITTLE Longspur guy is SOME ROMEO, just made for Valentine's day. Wait til you read "What He'll do for LOVE!" The Smith’s Longspur Has One Busy Honeymoon! | Blog | eNature wild.enature.com What sets the Smith's Longspur apart is its astonishing libido. Small like a sparrow, the Smith's Longspur spends its summers in Alaska and Canada and its winters in the Midwest and the South, congregating in open fields.

This is a great tool for kids too: carry a blank book and some pencils, a kneaded rubber eraser (it's fun to sculpt with as well as erase), maybe a small watercolor kit or colored pencils. Really LOOK at what you are seeing. Draw what you see, not what you think you see. It creates a sort of zen of being there, a focus missing in our techie world.

i worked as a environmental officer in Borneo, so pretty much i saw what has gone and what has returned. we try to conserve a few of endemics plants from Borneo, such as aquillaria sp and nephentes sp, we also try to conserve gmelina arborea so we could be self-proppeled in any way. hopefully we're gain more success in conserving the animals as well.

wow
i love nature
